Business Address

What a Singapore business address is, and what it is for

A business address is the address a company shows publicly and uses for business correspondence — on its website, its invoices, its contracts and its bank records. In Singapore it is frequently the same address a company records as its registered office, though the two serve different purposes and need not be the same.

What the address is actually doing

An address is read before it is used. A bank opening an account, a client checking who they are contracting with, a supplier setting up terms — each of them looks at where a company says it is, and forms a view. A settled central address says the company intends to be around.

The second job is more practical. Business post has to arrive somewhere, be recognised as important, and reach the right person. That is easy when everyone sits in one office and rarely travels. It stops being easy the moment a founder is abroad, a team is distributed, or the trading premises change.

The third job is separation. An address used for business is visible: it appears on documents that are difficult to withdraw and on filings that stay on the public record. Keeping a home address out of that is a reasonable thing to want, and for many people it is the reason they take a business address at all.

The terms, and what each one means

These six words are used loosely, and often interchangeably, by people selling different things. They are not the same, and knowing which one you need is most of the decision.

Business address
The address a company presents publicly and uses commercially — on its website, its invoices, its contracts and its bank records. It carries no statutory meaning of its own.
Registered office address
The address a Singapore-incorporated company records with the companies registry as its address of record, and at which formal correspondence is served. A different thing from a business address, though frequently the same address.
Correspondence address
A chosen destination for business post. Used where a company would rather its mail did not arrive at trading premises, a client site, or a director’s home.
Virtual office
A commercial package usually built around the use of an address, with mail handling and sometimes call answering or occasional room access. A product name, not a legal category — what is inside it varies by provider.
Mail forwarding
The onward despatch of post received at the address to somewhere else you nominate, locally or overseas.
Workspace
Somewhere to sit and work — a desk, a room, a lease. An address service is not workspace, and a workspace membership does not automatically come with an address service.

How to choose one

Address services look similar in a list and behave very differently in practice. Four questions separate them.

  1. 1

Decide what the address must do

Business and correspondence use is one question. Use as your company’s registered office is a separate one, with its own requirements. Settle that first, because it changes what you should be asking for.

  2. 2

Ask who actually receives the post

A staffed address and an unattended box behave very differently when a signed-for letter or a small parcel arrives. Ask what happens to registered mail, and who signs for it.

  3. 3

Ask how and how quickly you are told

An address is only as useful as the notification behind it. Ask what record is kept of each item, how you are notified, and how long mail is held before something has to be decided.

  4. 4

Read the terms, not the marketing

What identity checks are required, what happens to your mail when the arrangement ends, how personal data is handled and retained, and what is charged only when used. These are the parts you will live with.

This page describes general practice; it is not legal advice, and it is not a statement of what the law requires of your company. Requirements change, and what applies to you depends on your circumstances. Confirm current requirements with ACRA or a qualified corporate services provider or lawyer before you rely on anything here.

Where Pagar & Co. fits

Pagar & Co. operates from PS100, 100 Peck Seah Street, Singapore 079333, in the Tanjong Pagar district. It is an address and mail service: letters, registered mail and small parcels are received, recorded on arrival and notified, then held for collection or forwarded to an address you nominate. It is not a coworking operator and it does not sell desks.

The service is designed for business and correspondence use, and for registered office use where that is suitable — suitability is confirmed case by case before onboarding rather than assumed. Pricing is available on application.

Pagar & Co. is preparing to open and is not yet accepting clients. Registering your interest places you under no obligation and does not activate an address.

Common questions

Is a business address the same as a registered office address?
Not necessarily. A registered office address is a statutory concept — the address a company records with the companies registry and at which formal correspondence is served. A business address is simply the address a company uses publicly. The same address often serves both purposes, but one does not automatically make it suitable for the other.
What actually arrives at a business address?
Ordinary business post: letters from banks, insurers, suppliers and clients, correspondence from government bodies, statements, and signed-for or registered items. Small parcels arrive too, which is worth checking a provider accepts before you commit.
Can I use a business address instead of renting an office?
For the address function, yes — that is what the service is for. It is not workspace. If you need somewhere to sit, meet or store equipment, that is a separate arrangement and should be treated as one.
Can I just use my home address?
Many small companies do. The trade-off is visibility: an address that appears on invoices, contracts and public filings is difficult to withdraw later, and it is seen by everyone who looks the company up. Whether a residential address may be used for any particular purpose depends on the rules that apply to you, so confirm it rather than assume it.
Do I need to be in Singapore to use a Singapore business address?
You do not need to be present for post to be received, recorded and forwarded to you. Whether your company has other local requirements is a separate question, and one to put to ACRA or a qualified corporate services professional.
What does a Singapore business address cost?
It varies considerably by provider, by location and by what is included — mail handling, parcels, forwarding and collection are not always in the same package. Pagar & Co. pricing is available on application.
